The Municipality of Faenza, a city of art famous worldwide for its long ceramic tradition, is a local authority responsible, in accordance with current legislation, for protecting and promoting the general interests of its community, carrying out political, administrative and governmental functions relating to its territory and community. Faenza is located in the Emilia-Romagna region and it has a population of about 60,000 inhabitants.

Faenza is one, the main, of the six neighbouring Municipalities associated in Unione della Romagna Faentina (URF). This organization has different departments dealing with local policies and services (urban planning, social services, culture, tourism and economic development, education, security and local police). It has around 500 employées and it has a European project office with a staff dedicated to the planning and implementation of European and integrated projects. In Faenza, the experience of pedal cars began in September 1998, when some teachers from the ITIP Bucci Institute went to Valentigney in France for a preparatory visit for a project.

On that occasion, after discovering the world of pedal cars, the institute decided to join the "Comenius" project which would involve pupils from 3 different schools: I.T.I.S. "E. Mattei" - Faenza, Lycèe Professionnel "Fernand Lèger" - France and Leek High School - England, who collaborated for two years on the construction of a car. In September 2000, with the participation of a school delegation at the 20th Valentigny Grand Prix (1st race involving a foreign team and 1st European race), the idea was born to bring pedal car racing to Faenza as well, a project that took place in 2003.

Since 2006, the experience of Faenza has also been extended to the nearby Municipality of Cotignola and in 2019 a race was also held in Lugo.
