EU RIDE is the follow up of the “Ride to Learn in Europe” project (RTL), co-financed under the Erasmus + programme in 2017 and coordinated by the Municipality of Faenza (Italy), which aimed at giving value to sport events linked to pedal car races.
Pedal cars and EU RIDE project
RTL has paved the way for a wider diffusion of pedal cars in some EU countries. However, this sport has the potential to become more popular and it encourages youngsters’ participation in a plurality of ways – form construction to team racing – ,all while promoting teamwork, collaboration, creativity.
EU RIDE was born with three main goals:
- Promoting pedal cars diffusion in the EU among different audiences and age groups, by enhancing the knowledge and capacities of organizations to promote pedal cars events and by spreading knowledge and culture of pedal cars to the general public;
- Raising schools’ interest towards pedal cars and engage youngsters by disseminating basic construction principles;
- Promote sports activities among youngsters by valorizing some core aspects derived from pedal cars: the open-air dimension, teamwork and collaboration, creativity and complementarity of skills.

The 2-year project implementation has led to a series of concrete results:
1
A new manual for associations and local bodies on how to develop pedal car races & events on a local and EU-scale;
2
A toolkit for learning and teaching how to build pedal cars, complemented by a set of video-tutorials;
3
An international online platform establishing a EU-wide network of pedal cars enthusiasts gathering associations, schools, local bodies, sports facilities, private citizens.
